How Does Quetiapine Fumarate Work?

Dopamine D2 receptor blockade in mesolimbic pathways is the primary mechanism underlying antipsychotic efficacy — reducing excessive dopaminergic activity that drives psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions. Side Effects of Quetiapine Fumarate

Drug Interactions
Quetiapine may interact with other medications, including MAOIs, CNS depressants, and strong CYP3A4 inducers. Always inform your clinician about all medications you are taking.
Additive QT prolongation; risk of potentially fatal Torsades de Pointes. Concurrent use requires careful review and cardiac monitoring.

Important Warnings
Antipsychotic medications — including quetiapine — are associated with an increased risk of mortality and stroke when used in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis.
