Frequently Asked Questions

What can I request through The GP Service?
You can request prescriptions, fit notes, and referral letters. Simply book a consultation slot to discuss your symptoms, condition, or requirements with a qualified independent clinician who will make a clinical decision about your treatment.
Are the independent prescribers qualified and registered?
Yes. All independent clinicians are fully qualified and registered with their UK professional regulator — including GMC-registered doctors and GPhC-registered pharmacist prescribers. They are licensed prescribers with extensive experience in clinical assessment and prescribing decisions.
How quickly will I receive my prescription, fit note or referral letter?
Same day service is available for most consultations. After your consultation and clinical assessment, if a prescription, fit note or referral letter is clinically appropriate, it will be issued electronically and can be downloaded immediately.
What does the consultation cost?
A video consultation is £49. At booking, we pre-authorise £49 on your card to secure your appointment — this is not a charge; payment is taken when your consultation is delivered. If a prescription, fit note, or referral letter is issued during your consultation, a separate £19.99 administration fee is taken before the document is issued. Repeat prescriptions are £19.99 per issue. Every fee is shown clearly before you pay.
What conditions can independent prescribers assess?
The independent clinicians can assess a wide range of conditions for prescriptions and fit notes, including acute illnesses, chronic condition management, mental health conditions, workplace injuries, and general medical concerns. The final clinical decision rests with the matched professional based on your individual assessment.
How do I receive my prescription?
Your prescription will be sent directly to your email as a digital prescription. It includes a unique code that you can use to have it dispensed at a pharmacy. All relevant instructions will be clearly outlined in the email.
What happens if no prescription or fit note is issued?
The clinicians provide a thorough assessment based on your individual needs. If it's determined that a prescription, fit note, or referral letter is not clinically appropriate, you'll still be billed for consulting with the independent clinician.
Can I request a repeat prescription?
Yes, repeat prescriptions are available. To make the process faster, simply rebook under the same patient account you previously used.
What is the age eligibility?
Bookings can be made by individuals aged 18 or older on behalf of patients aged 13 and above.
Self-booking is only permitted for patients aged 18 and above.
How can I inform my GP about this consultation?
You can download a PDF summary of your consultation and share it with your GP for their records.
Can visitors book a consultation?
Yes — provided you are in the United Kingdom at the time of your consultation. You can book a consultation, receive a prescription where clinically appropriate, and have it dispensed at a UK pharmacy.
