Built Because the System Wasn't Working
The GP Service was founded in 2015 with a simple belief: nobody should have to wait weeks for a GP appointment when they need help today. At a time when NHS waiting times were growing and patients were being left without options, we set out to build something better.
We were among the first private online clinician services in the UK to link directly to NHS medical records — meaning patients could get the care they needed without losing continuity with their registered GP. That commitment to working alongside the NHS, not against it, remains central to everything we do.

What is The GP Service?
The GP Service is a private online healthcare platform that connects patients with licensed UK clinicians for same-day video and phone consultations. We offer prescriptions where clinically appropriate, fit notes, referral letters, repeat prescriptions, weight management programmes, blood testing, and medication delivery via GPhC-registered partner pharmacies — all accessible from home, 365 days a year.
Is The GP Service regulated?
The GP Service is an online clinical directory and is not itself a pharmacy. All clinicians are individually registered with the relevant professional bodies, including the GMC and GPhC, and prescriptions are dispensed by GPhC-registered partner pharmacies. The GP Service is registered with the ICO and is Cyber Essentials accredited.
How long has The GP Service been running?

Are your clinicians qualified?
All clinicians working with The GP Service are fully qualified UK medical professionals. Our current clinical team consists of GPhC-registered pharmacist independent prescribers, each with extensive experience in primary care, prescribing, and online consultations.
Do you replace my NHS GP?
No. We work alongside your NHS GP, not as a replacement. With your consent, we share consultation notes with your registered GP so your medical records stay up to date and your ongoing care remains coordinated. We're here for when you need care quickly and can't wait for an NHS appointment.
Is my data safe?
Absolutely. All consultations are fully confidential and protected by end-to-end encryption. We are Cyber Essentials accredited and registered with the ICO, and all patient data is handled in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What are your opening hours?
We're open 365 days a year, from 8am to 5pm, including weekends, bank holidays, and over Christmas. You can book a same-day consultation any day of the year.
How much does a consultation cost?
Video consultations are £49. An additional £19.99 administration fee applies where a prescription, fit note, or referral letter is issued. At booking, we pre-authorise £49 on your card — the £19.99 is taken as a separate payment during the consultation if a document is issued. Full pricing is on our pricing page.
Do you have a physical location?
While our consultations are delivered online, we work with over 200 walk-in centres across the UK and 6,000+ partner pharmacies for prescription collection. You can also have medication delivered directly to your door within 24 hours.
